Ahoy me maties, shiver me timbers and walk the plank...Well finally I can tell you all my secret! It has been held close to my heart for many months now, waiting patiently to burst out of my mouth, but I was keeping it safe incase I jinxed it. But at long last I can share it with the world!

I am running away! (or rather sailing) :) I have resigned from my job and been employed by a small, 6 star, luxury, cruise liner for 4 months. Once that contract is done I am flying to the Mediterranean to work on the yachts and motor boats there. Then, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. And then...who knows, the world is my oyster :) It is all very loose and freely planned, which is so exciting!!! I could go anywhere! Yay for me!

Anyway I just wanted to let you all know this happy news in my life. I will also unfortunately not be able to keep up with my posting here, so am taking a break...but fear not, I have started a new blog! Yes!! It is called Sailor Girls. And this is where I will be posting all my sea and travel adventures, so please visit, I am sure it is going to be exciting. (Don't worry one day I will be back for A Moments Clarity...but I just don't know when, so for now this is bon voyage :)) Till we meet again, G x x x

I Could Not Date A Vampire!!!

I know, I know, it has been a really long time. Tsk, tsk, shame on me. I have really been slacking. Sorry guys. But here I am :) It's crazy how life just speeds up. I really don't have enough time in the days anymore. I am working towards a very special life project. So I have been tied up lately. Anyway, enough excuses, I have a very funny story for you....

Ok, so I am terrified of needles, injections and blood! Yes I am a full grown woman who has a complete irrational fear of these three things. I don't like it, it makes me feel weak, silly and like a child. So the other day I was like..."I am going to give blood!!!" I felt this was a smart decision, as if I kept giving blood I could conquer my fear and also save lives while doing it! (Kind of like a super hero) Awesome!

So off I go all by myself, with no one to hold my hand, excited that I am been such a big, brave girl. Once there it all starts to hit me! Wow! There is blood in this room!! I see needles and giant bags for my blood, antiseptic smells, nurses gloves. And all of a sudden I feel like a caged animal searching for an escape route! Seriously I had the most intense desire to bolt. But non the less I have a stern talking to myself and fill out the forms and sit in the chair. The nurse was really nice but obviously I look away as she fiddles with my arm. (Lets not fool ourselves, it is sore! Not, oh-my-word-I-am-going-to-pass-out-from-the-pain kind of sore, but it is sore) Once she is done I sit there as the blood is drained from my body! But as I think of other things, besides vampires, dripping blood and death, I realise....I am ok. Munching on my cookies and sipping my juice, I think this is not so bad. I am kind of a big deal right now. Look at me saving lives. Easy peazy!

After they drain a full bag from me, I am free to go. And wow, was I proud of myself! I felt great. This is something I could actually do. Anyway, so as I am leaving the room and walking down the corridor. I start to feel funny. Light headed, my limbs don't seem coordinated, my vision is blurred and my ears are muffled....I know this feeling....I recognize this misty haze....Bam!

I wake up face flat on the carpet. Ha ha ha ha ha ha, yes I fainted and face planted the floor!!! Full on face plant! I was lying sprawled on the carpet. Dazed and confused. I had no idea how I got there, where I was or how long I had been lying there. I didn't even remember walking out of the blood drive room. Ha ha ha ha ha, once I came too, I jumped up, so embarrassed, I dust myself off. (but thank goodness no one saw me) So needless to say for the rest of the day I stayed securely seated, slurping on coke and nibbling on a Bar One feeling very sorry for myself. The dizziness only left me the next morning. Hee hee hee. Anyway I just wanted to share that story because I found it hysterical :) G

I am in love with this song from, Gotye (my new favorite band). I simply keep it on repeat, for days. For me music is like poetry. A deeper, more emotive form of poetry. Music is an emotional experience. The beat, instruments and band chemistry all add to a song but the words and intensity of the vocals are what make music and particularly this song, for me. The words are what take it to a new level. And this song changes me. It makes me feel. An uncomfortable stirring deep inside my soul. This artist is amazing! Her technique and work really appeals to me. Sandra Dieckmann is a freelance illustrator who lives in East London. Her work mainly evolves around nature and wildlife and is inspired by all that embodies childhood stories and half remembered fairytales, giving each piece an earthy deep-rooted feeling of forests and mystery. Her work eternally explores and expresses her personal love for drawing the creatures that roam this planet. I adore her simple yet highly detailed technique. Line has a large part in her work as she plays with various textures of line and each piece is highly outlined. I love the simply use of colour and the sytlised geographic shapes. Her work is amazing! G

I love chinese Lanterns!! They remind me of romance, fairytales and making wishes. Everything and anything enchanted and dream-like has always inspired me. So these lanterns really blow my mind!

This is the history behind the Chinese Lantern...A long time ago (3rd Century BCE) the Chinese developed Kongming Lanterns commonly know as, Sky lanterns, as signals for war or enemies approaching. Now, many Asian cultures have adopted the lanterns for wishing, by writing their wishes on the lanterns or as a form of “release”, by writing their concerns or problems and watching them fly away. The custom is poetic and beautiful and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate whatever you are going through in your life than gathering together with a large group of loved ones under a lantern lit sky. I love proteas, they are so unusually beautiful. I also love them because they are a national symbol for South Africa, and that makes me very proud. Did you know the protea was named after a Greek god Proteus. Proteus can foretell the future, but he will change his shape and form to avoid having to do this. He will answer only to someone who is capable of capturing him. Pretty cool little story hey? :) G

Since I am a bit of a neat freak (I probably spend at least a full hour out of my day straightening and re-positioning all the things on my desk) this artist really tickled my fancy. Swiss artist Ursus Wehrli creates order and structure in his work. He re-arranges and organises everyday scenes into neat rows. His work is in his new book called The Art of Clean Up, which features photographs of everyday scenes rearranged into these organized rows. Too cool. :)

We need to spread the message that this barbaric cruelty is not acceptable and we as humankind will not stand for it. We need to show the government they are not doing enough to protect our Rhinos and we need to give these gentle beasts a voice!! Please help us stand up against Rhino Poaching in South Africa tomorrow on Spring day. Wear BLACK on the 1st September - Spring Day and tie a BLACK ribbon around the right hand mirror of your vehicle to create awareness on the senseless poaching of Rhino in South Africa. Traditionally Spring Day is a happy one when people wear bright, joyful colours, but this Spring I will be joining this worthy initiative and will be wearing my BLACK. The BLACK symbolise how bleak and dark the future looks for our Rhino population if something dramatic is not done to stop this epidemic soon! Please support this cause and spread the word.

It Has Been A While....

Hi Everyone...I am G, and it has been been too long since my last confession...I mean blog. Sorry. Things have honestly been insane. Too much has happened in this past week. Things are so difficult. This world is an impossible place to thrive in sometimes. My plate has been very full these past few weeks. And so many wonderful things have happened to me but some really terrible things seem to be happening around me to those that I love most. I have been a complete emotional reck. I am sure everyone can emphasis with this. It makes us realise how lucky we are to have our health, to have people in our lives who love and protect us, to live in a home that is safe, to have someone to lean on when things are tough. And to have a dream that can take us away from all of this. I feel so blessed to have all these things. But life is fragile, things change so quickly, we have to savor the good constantly because we never know where life will take us. I am still holding tight to my little secret that I spoke about in my previous post, this little secret is the light at the end of this dark tunnel. I can not wait to share it with you all...soon, very soon :) So remember today to kiss the ones you love goodbye. Tell them that you love them and tell them often, just incase. Morbid but it is the truth, life is tricky, impossibly short and incredibly cruel sometimes. G

And she was the figurative straw on the camels back. I am honestly just blown away by everything you wonderful people have to say to me about my blog. Yay, My Books Are On Their Way!!

I treated myself the other day, by buying some books from Kalahari. I have a kindle which I adore and use daily, but I also love actual books and nothing can replace the feeling of fresh pages under your fingers. So as I normally do on the rare occasion, I splashed out and spoilt myself. And today Kalahari will be delivering these babies to my door! Eeek, I am so excited!! What to read first!!! :) G

My, oh my, this little spread looks amazing! I could eat like this everyday! This is how they eat in Italy. And this will always be done outdoors and usually under a wooden terrace with grapes growing on it. And the majority of the food on the table would have been unrooted from the garden surrounding you :) Bliss. G

Tea always brightens my day! Seriously I am either so easy to please or everyone feels like this. A nice cuppa just makes the day seem easier! I swear whenever our lovely tea lady comes around at 10 and 3, I could kiss her on the face! I always tell her she is my favorite person in the whole company! :) She makes the tea...so she is!

Oh wow I really have to try this recipe. It looks so yummy and I have always wanted to make a souffle. Apparently it is a very easy recipe too :) Yay. Enjoy G

Chocolate souffle

3 tbsp cold butter, for greasing

1 tbsp caster sugar, for dusting

1 tsp cocoa, for dusting

150g dark chocolate

50g butter, cubed

4 egg yolks

110g caster sugar

1 tbsp cocoa

5 egg whites

1 pinch of cream of tartar

1 pinch of salt

Icing sugar, foér dusting

Step one

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Grease ramekins with butter, then brush the sides with a pastry brush to create vertical grooves (this will help the soufflé to rise). Combine caster sugar and cocoa and dust ramekins. Shake out excess.

Step two

Place the chocolate and butter in a heat- proof bowl set over a pot of simmering water; allow to

melt. Remove from heat and set aside to cool a little.

Step three

In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks and 60g caster sugar until pale. Sift in cocoa, stir well to combine. Add the egg mixture to the melted chocolate mixture, and stir well to combine.

Step four

In a large glass bowl, beat the egg whites with the cream of tarter and salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add remaining caster sugar one tablespoon at a time until mixture is thick and glossy and stiff peaks form.

Step five

With a metal spoon, fold a little of the egg white into the choco- late mixture to loosen it, then gently fold in the remaining egg white until combined.

Step six

Spoon the mixture into the prepared dishes. Run the tip of a folded piece of paper towel around the lip of the ramekin, between the mixture and the dish (this will help the soufflé to rise). Bake for 20 minutes, remove from oven, dust with icing sugar and serve immediately.

Sum 41 is in Durban tonight!!! Eeeeeekk. I know to many people this would not be such a big deal, but I fell in love with Deryck Whibley in standard four and ever since then I have fiercly stood by this band. Even now as I am getting older and punk rock and mosh pits are no longer all I live for, Sum 41 will always be closest to my heart. This band got me through many, many hard times and all my awkward phases. I remember saving for months to get their first album and this was the very first album I ever bought. So tonight I will become a teenager again and I will finally see these guys live. I am so excited. Eeeekk!!! Rock on peeps, G :)

Creating Infinite Beauty - Kate MacDowell

I LOVE these porcelain sculptures by artist Kate D. MacDowell. She pulls inspiration from environmental degradation, mythology, art history and other cultural touchstones.

Kate states that, “I see each piece as a captured and preserved specimen, a painstaking record of endangered natural forms and a commentary on our own culpability.” She also says about her work, "In my work this romantic ideal of union with the natural world conflicts with our contemporary impact on the environment. These pieces are in part responses to environmental stressors including climate change, toxic pollution, and gm crops. They also borrow from myth, art history, figures of speech and other cultural touchstones."

Each piece is hand sculptured out of porcelain. I absolutely mindlessly love this work! Seriously I want each piece. Each one is so detailed and intricate. They are so raw and ghostly. Some of them are a bit disturbing but that simply makes me love them even more. I love art that makes you feel, that moves you, and wow I am moved!!! G

I know I have posted this picture from Pintrest before but this is still my most favorite picture of all time. Every time I look at it it makes me insanely happy. I don't particularly like photos of myself but I love photography. I feel photos can express so much and capture a moment that can be felt through the image.
